6 The Suicide Squad (2021)

Much like the aforementioned Jungle Cruise, The Suicide Squad contains a group of characters having an adventure in a lush, foreign setting away from civilization, but with many great dangers. This classic adventure cliche, mixed with some great humor and hardcore action, leads to another DCEU hit the fans love. This was truly the sequel that fans wanted, and James Gunn delivered big time.

Be it the original, second movie, or this one, Jumanji is the precedent for adventure films, especially with the trope of navigating the wild and the age-old conflict of man versus nature. Take these key ingredients and group them with an all-star cast, humor, and sprinkle in some nostalgia, you get an excellent film that makes the podium for best recent adventure film.

An empathetic main character risking their life for a person or cause by going into the unknown has adventure material written all over it, and the writers did not disappoint with the opportunity to capitalize on this concept. In fact, only one recent movie does it better.

The second highest-grossing movie of all time is, without a doubt, the best adventure film in many years.
