Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery stars in trailer for new Netflix drama Anatomy of a Scandal

One of Downton Abbey’s biggest stars has taken front and centre stage in the recently released trailer for an upcoming Netflix drama.

Michelle Dockery found fame in Downton Abbey playing Lady Mary Crawley. One of the main characters in the series and its movie, Dockery’s portrayal of the eldest Crawley sister saw her nominated for many awards including a Golden Globe Award and three consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

The 40-year-old will be back on screens shortly in the second Downton movie, Downton Abbey: A New Era. The movie has been filmed partly at Highclere Castle on the Hampshire border and will see a number of new cast members join returning stars Hugh Bonneville, Dame Maggie Smith and Elizabeth McGovern.

The movie will see fans taken off to the south of France after Dame Maggie Smith’s character inherits a house out there. It appears the house staff could be travelling alongside the family with popular character while film crews take over Downton Abbey. Loads of new information was shared in a recent trailer with it appearing that Lady Mary will be involved with the filming with Lord Grantham heard referring to it as “Lady Mary’s film”.

Fans will also be treated to a wedding in the movie with Tom Branson (Allen Leech) and Lucy Smith (Tuppence Middleton), who started a relationship during the first film, seemingly tying the knot. Branson was of course in love with Lady Mary’s youngest sister in the early series of Downton until her death.

After filming was completed for the new Downton movie however Dockery began filming for her latest project. Anatomy of a Scandal will see the star play a ‘steely criminal barrister’ who is convinced that a Westminster official standing trial for rape is guilty. The series is based on a novel of the same name by Sarah Vaughan.

Other actors starring in the Netflix series include Rupert Friend, Sienna Miller and fellow Downton Abbey alumni Jonathan Coy. Filming began back in October of 2020 at Shepperton Studios and production also took place in Oxford in February of last year.

Away from acting, Michelle Dockery has also had a busy few months. In January the actor announced her engagement to Jasper Waller-Bridge in The Times newspaper. The pair met three years ago through friends and made their first public appearance together in October 2019.

In February it was revealed the star will also be releasing a folk album alongside fellow Downton star Michael Fox. The album, called The Watching Silence, will be available from May 13 and contains four original songs from the pair.

Anatomy of a Scandal is coming to Netflix in the UK on April 15.
